WEHEA KELAY KALIMANTAN TREE FOREST ADOPTION

Background

Indonesia is also a country with the third largest tropical rainforest in the world. This forest is a life support not only for the flora and fauna that live in it, but also for the rural communities that live around it. Forests contribute greatly to economic development in Indonesia and play an important role in the hydrological cycle and climate change mitigation.

As the largest archipelagic country in the world, Indonesia has uniqueness and advantages. The richness of biodiversity in Indonesia is one of the highest in the world. Regarding land wealth, Indonesia is home to 11% of the world's plant species, 10% of the world's mammal species, 16% of the world's bird species, and 17% of the world's reptile and amphibian species. Apart from that, there are also 61 species of primates living in Indonesia, with the orangutan as one of the iconic animals. Orangutans are endemic primates of Indonesia whose distribution is limited to the islands of Sumatra and Kalimantan.

The tree adoption program is a way to protect Indonesia's nature while providing benefits to the surrounding community.

Adoption Program
The tree adoption program targets both conservation and social goals simultaneously. From a conservation standpoint, the tree adoption program will ensure that forest cover is maintained through individual trees that are cared for by the community. The adoption program is a donation program through an "adoption" scheme to ensure that forest conservation efforts continue as well as the welfare of local communities. Through the "adoption" scheme of individual trees by donors to ensure that the trees remain healthy and upright, while at the same time supporting community welfare through the provision of educational scholarships to children in the village.

The distribution of donations is 50:50 for tree maintenance needs by the Kerima Puri Village Forest Management Institute and educational scholarships for village children.

What distinguishes Adoption of Trees from other donation programs is that donors will receive a nameplate erected in front of the tree as a sign that the tree has been adopted.

The program is carried out with the flow of activities as follows:

1. Donors donate on the adoption page by selecting individual trees and the value of the donation to be given;
2. The organizer will put up a sign with the donor's full name according to the name written by the donor on the donation form;
3. The nameplate will stand up no later than 1 month after the donation is made;
4. The organizer will upload photos of trees and boards that are already standing;
5. The organizer will send a notification when the validity period of the donation will expire.
